Sensitivity, Specificity, and Predictive Values of Reagent Test Strip Estimations of Blood Urea Nitrogen

In humans, Azostix-reagent-test~R strips have been a useful semiquantitative screening tool for abnormal blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels. Azostix strips are also widely used by veterinarians, mostly in small animal medicine. The sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values of this technique were investigated. Blood urea nitrogen values were measured in blood samples from 12.5 dogs and cats at one college of veterinary medicine. These findings were compared with standard serum urea nitrogen findings.
