The Co-Construction of NGO Accountability. Aligning Imposed and Felt Accountability in NGO-Funder Accountability Relationships

O'Dwyer and Boomsma's paper explores the reality of accountability for a Dutch-based NGO (Oxfam). The article draws attention to this relevance highlighting the transition of the Netherlands from Colonial policy to one of a 'new form of politics which increased the attention afforded to development aid in the Netherlands' (46). Oxfam is used as a case study given its history as the first politically and religiously independent NGO within the Netherlands. The papers' main argument centres on the idea that NGO accountability (particularly Oxfam's) shifts with the change in policy of its funding provider (government).
