THE HAMPTON Inn in Midtown Manhattan is hardly the Big Apple's most glamorous hotel. The lobby isn't much bigger than your living room, and the "business center" is a single computer. Breakfast consists of Cheerios and steam table eggs, and the front desk clerk takes time from her check-in duties to restock the muffin bin. But this middlebrow venue offers one perk that trumps those of its high-brow competitors: Its nearly impossible to rack up an extra fee.
