摘要

Who says the U.S. Congress has no shame? Lawmakers are on the verge of increasing the federal minimum wage for the first time since 1997. The legislation would raise the minimum from USD5.15 an hour to USD7.25 by 2009. That will directly benefit 6 million workers (about 4 percent of the labor force). Millions more who are earning just above the proposed threshold will probably get a raise as well.
