Despite recent woes., financial stocks still offer opportunity- especially abroad. SURE, THE HEADLINES have been unnerving, but investing in financial companies doesn't have to be. The credit crisis and the government's plan to solve it are distinctly American-made phenomena, tied to our housing markets, our mortgages and our overleveraged investment banks. Few foreign lenders went as credit crazy as their stateside counterparts. And now, with stronger balance sheets, bigger dividends and soft stock prices, many overseas banks look pretty appealing.
