The purpose of a windshield tree survey of municipal right-of-way is primarily to identify street trees in need of maintenance or removal so that prompt attention may be given and public safety is maximized. Secondarily, a windshield tree survey can be used to collect useful data such as: Sidewalks raised by tree roots; Traffic visibility obstructions from vegetation; Signage obstructions; Traffic and street light obstructions; Surface root issues; Tree stumps to be removed; Available tree planting locations. This information can then be digested and given to the proper authority for follow up.
