Gordon Mitchell, account director for PMP Recruitment looks at ways in which his company is working to help overcome the growing issue of a shortage of fork lift truck drivers. Across the UK the shortage of mechanical handling equipment (MHE) operators, mainly fork lift truck drivers, is certainly a cause of concern. Although not as drastic as the LGV (Large Goods Vehicle) crisis, where dwindling numbers are amplified by the fact that UK industry will require an extra 150,000 drivers by 2020, the number of currently qualified fork lift truck drivers, or those looking to explore that career path, is shrinking at an alarming rate.
