The microstructure, properties and the mechanism of heat-treatment reinforcement of SiC whisker reinforced AlN composites with Y{sub}2O{sub}3 and SiO{sub}2 additives were studied using XRD, SEM, EPA and HREM techniques in this paper. The results indicated that the properties of AlN/SiCw composites could be increased by heat4reatment at 1300℃ in air. The phase composition was varied during the heat-treatment, and glass phase in the grain boundary reacted with the surface composition of AlN to produce fibrous 2H{sup}δSialon, forming the crossing structure of fibrous 2H{sup}δ Sialon and SiC whisker.
