Case studies in pediatric neurology. Introduction.

This issue is our fourth devoted to case studies in Seminars in Pediatric Neurology. Although the publication of a "case report" is often maligned as being something other than science and therefore of little value, for those of us who are engaged in the practice of clinical pediatric neurology, the evaluation of each individual patient (case) is what we do on a day-to-day basis. Speaking from a personal standpoint, finding a case report of a patient with something similar to a patient that I have been struggling with is a very rewarding experience. Not only am I happy to have information about something that has been a puzzle, but often the case study provides additional information relating to the differential diagnosis, diagnostic evaluation, therapy, and prognosis.
