Exxon Valdez 20th Anniversary--A Singular Event

This week is the 20~(th) anniversary of the "Exxon Valdez" oil spill. Although not the biggest (there were bigger spills in the 1960s and 1970s), for shipping it was arguably the most influential accident since the "Titanic". The "Titanic" opened the way for what became the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) convention and the "Exxon Valdez" initiated a major change in tanker design to double hull vessels.
