Scenes like those described abovewere two of the many that couldhave occurred during actual poweroutages in the two largest U.S. cities.Theories abound as to why those black-outs happened during those times. Onetheory concerning the 2004 blackoutincludes a bird sitting on a power line. But that theory could not account forsimultaneous outages at the BellagioHotel in Las Vegas. Many scholarsmaintain these outages had to do morewith an overloading effect of electricityconsumption on a power grid— muchlike overuse of power in a home causesa fuse to blow.
