European Standards-The 'New Approach'

The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) developes standards for free trade in goods. This is a summary of CEN's activities and a brief on new development. The development of the European Union has given a big impulse to the development of theregional standards developed by the European Committee for Standardization. The requirements of the Single Market for free trade in goods have generated the need for thousands of standards. But other policies in respect of environmental issues, sustainable development, food safety, energy efficiency, transport and others also require the backing of voluntary instruments provided by standards.
