NONCONFORMING, ANISOTROPIC, RECTANGULAR FINITEELEMENTS OF ARBITRARY ORDER FOR THE STOKES PROBLEM

The numerical solution of the Stokes problem is analyzed for four families of rectangular, nonconforming finite elements of arbitrary order. While two of them become unsta-ble as the maximum aspect ratio of the finite elements increases, the other two remain stable. A complete convergence analysis is given for these two families on two-level triangulations with isotropic rectangular macroelements and certain anisotropic refinement strategies within the macros.
