The forests of Sidi Bel Abbes are among the most important and diversified in Western Algeria. They are facing damages mainly due to the anthropogenic pressures and severe drought. The aim of this study was to make a diagnosis on all the of the biotope elements by phytoecological approach. It was found that the aridity of the climate and the environment affect the vegetation characteristics. Alfa (Stipa tenacissima) was progressing on damaged soils and its dominance-abundance ratio was more important on the thinnest slope deposits in natural environment. The presence of xeric species (alfa, diss (Ampelodesma mauritanicum [Ampelodesmos mauritanica]) and doum (Chamaerops humilis)) was discovered, which explains the degradation of the vegetation and soil..
