Effect of Kuwait Crude oil on the green alga Ulva lactuca Linnaeus (Chlorophyceae, Ulvaceae) was studied in the laboratory culture conditions using natural seawater as medium with particular reference to survival, growth and biochemical parameters. Itwas observed that with increase in concentration of oil in the medium, the width of oil film on the surface of thallus increased. Among the different concentration of the crude oil tested, maximum decrease in biomass over control was affected in 20% concentration of oil. The decrease in percentage of protein, carbohydrate and lipid over control was 24.54, 23.98 and 58.22 respectively in the above said concentration.
