Seaweed resource in the intertidal and subtidal regions of Pudumadam, Gulf of Mannar

摘要

In the present study, seaweed resource occurring in the intertidal region of Pudumadam was studied. Totally 29 species of algae were recorded of which 9 species belong to Chlorophyceae, 9 species to Phaeophyceae and 11 species to Rhodophyceae. The total biomass of Rhodophyceae was 2197.2 g/m super(2), Chlorophyceae was 667.6 g/m super(2) and Phaeophyceae was 376.7 g/m super(2). All the 29 species collected are listed and their economic importances is given.
