摘要

Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technology has enabled a single channel fiber to carry much more data traffic than was previously possible. Recently, with an explosive growth of the Internet, research and development for higher capacity and longer distance transmission using advanced wavelength multiplexing technologies and broader wavelength bands is being conducted by many companies. In the conventional system designs using single fiber connectors, however, it was difficult to realize high capacity transmission due to physically limited storage space available, and it has been urged to develop a miniaturized connector to suit enhanced transmission systems. Multi-fiber optical connectors are essential for high-density optical fiber communication systems. Especially in the DWDM systems, low loss multi-fiber PC optical connectors are indispensable for high power transmission. In order to meet these demands, the authors have designed and manufactured low loss multi-fiber optical connectors using high-density optical circuit that could achieve low connection, equivalent to that of single fiber connectors such as SC or MU connector.
