Development of a new polycrystalline diamond (PCD) series for wire-drawing dies

Development of a New Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) Series for Wire-Drawing Dies - by Junji Degawa, Minoru Yoshida, Akito Yoshida and Tsutomu Nakamura - Sumitomo Electric has developed Sumidia WD, a new polycrystalline diamond (PCD) series forwire-drawing dies. By improving the preparation and sintering conditions for the raw material powder, we have improved the bonding strength between diamond particles, and as a result this product provides significantly improved PCD strength and wearresistance. The product lineup has also been expanded and the design affecting the support ring reinforcement strength revised, making the new series easier to use. This paper describes both the series lineup and the improvements made.
