Development of a Self-Bonding Wire for CR1 Computer Displays - by Masaaki Yamauchi, lsao Ueoka, Takayuki Saeki and Masaaki Fukuhara - Sumitomo Electric has developed a new self-bonding wire for CRT display deflection yoke coils. This new wirefeatures outstanding lubrication and bonding characteristics, and offers good performance as a deflection yoke coil. CRT displays used as monitors for personal computers and workstations now require large screens and high-resolution performance. However,the self-bonding wire currently used in the deflection yoke coil, which is a key component of a CRT display, is increasingly unable to meet these needs, so wire supporting better performance is now required. Based on Sumitomo Electric's previousdevelopment experience with self-bonding wire for deflection yoke coils, improving the lubrication and bonding properties of self-bonding wire in a high temperature environment are considered the most critical aspects of fabricating a deflection yoke coil supporting high-resolution image display with a large screen. After studying self-bonding wire in order to meet these needs, we developed a new bonding film material which in turn allowed us to develop a new bonding wire featuring improved lubrication and bonding properties in high-temperature environments. This report describes the properties of this new self-bonding wire.
