Standardized Test Questions

A Tool for Developing Students' Proficiency With the Framework's Science Practices As part of a team leading an inquiry-based professional development program for teachers, we were reluctant when asked to present a workshop on a dreaded topic: assessments and standardized tests. How could we tie standardized testing to the inquiry science we were encouraging teachers to adopt? As we began exploring released standardized test items from our state and national assessments, however, we found that many questions support the inquiry and higher-order thinking skills we were advocating for in the program.
