STAFAC In-Water Systems Installation off the Bahamas

The radiated-noise measurement systems operated by the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) at the Tongue of the Ocean (TOTO), Bahamas, were nearing the end of their lives and required replacement prior to this year. The South TOTO Acoustic Facility (STAFAC) program replaced the existing surface-ship-deployed measurement systems with a fixed, bottom-mounted acoustic system. The system was connected by a submarine cable to the U.S. Navy Atlantic Undersea Test & Evaluation Center (AUTEC) Command Control Center 160 kilometers away. The main system infrastructure was installed in April and May of 2008, and the acoustic sensors were installed that July and August.
