The Spectral Reflection Analysis of Several Typical Foreign Fibers in Different Thick Cotton Layers

The quality of cotton textile was affected seriously by the foreign fibers in raw cotton. Especially, the tiny or white foreign fibers were detected hardly. Spectral technology was applied to distinguish the color close materials with different chemical composition. The spectral reflection characteristics of several typical foreign fibers in different thick cotton layers were measured and analyzed in this paper. The spectral reflectance of typical foreign fibers in different thick cotton layers were measured by spectrophotometer (UV-3150, Shimadzu, Japan). According to the experiment results, the cotton effect to spectral reflectance of foreign fibers in cotton layers was higher while the cotton layer thickness increasing. As to white plastic piece, hair, white paper and white polypropylene yarn, the spectral reflectance of foreign fiber in different thick cotton layers was similar with cotton. The spectral reflectance was between cotton and pure material at the same wave length. The spectral reflectance difference of hair in 1 cm cotton layer varied range greatness and had the greater difference at spectrum range from 440 nm to 798 nm. As to white polyester strip and white paper in cotton layer, the spectral reflectance difference was higher and stable at visible and near-infrared band. White plastic piece had the greatest difference of spectral reflectance at visible band. The least spectral reflectance difference was white polypropylene yarn which was lower than 5. White polypropylene yarn in cotton was hard to detect by spectral technology.
