The performance of several digital processing schemes is compared in this paper, including a number which have been proposed to aid the identification of the central fringe in white-light interferometric sensor systems. The paper aims to illustrate those techniques which enable the best performance to be achieved and conclusions are drawn on the comparative merits of a range of methods both in terms of central fringe selection, resource implications and operating ranges and speeds.
