Earlier this spring,General Dynamics(Falls Church,Virginia)and Austal(Henderson,Australia)launched the Navy's second littoral combat ship(LCS),Independence,into the Mobile River in Alabama.LCS 2 had been under construction inside Austal's production building until then.This launch was the first time the public was able to see the ship's distinctive aluminum trimaran hull.The three-day event involved rolling the ship from the construction building on rails to the deck of a floating dry dock,then floating the ship from the dry dock.
