Ultra-high resolution seabed mapping using an AUV

Since May 2001, De Beers Marine has been routinely operating a Maridan 600 Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) off the coast of Namibia. This vehicle has become the principal ultra-high resolution geophysical survey platform used in supporting the company's deep-water diamond mining operations. The implementation of this technology marks the successful culmination of a fouryear collaboration between De Beers Marine and Maridan.
