Since the mid 1990s,the positioning of surface vehicles has no longer been an issue due to the advent of the global positioning system(GPS).Today,any surface vehicle can be accurately positioned using simple means(except for special applications such as military).GPS does not work underwater because electromagnetic waves are attenuated very quickly in the first centimeters of water.
