For many Sea Technology magazine readers,oil and hydrogen mix about as well as oil and water.However,the mix may be better than you expect.In this soapbox,we will explore how keeping our eye on a hydrogen goal will allow us to develop a multi-fuel transitional energy system that moves steadily away from insecure energy supplies and carbon-choked air.Oil is a product derived from solar energy and aged for millions of years.We have seen,in a relatively short period of time,the shift from wood to coal to oil for energy.Each successive move has resulted in an improvement in the world's standard of living.
