Study Focuses on Impacts Of Seafloor Respiration

Researchers and engineers from the Department of Marine Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Bergen, Norway-based Aanderaa Data Instruments Inc. (AADI) have announced a new partnership designed to enhance efforts to investigate the role of seafloor respiration on the health of coral reefs and other threatened coastal ecosystems, the company recently announced. The work will initially focus on the role of large sponges that increasingly dominate the benthic biomass of declining coral reefs along the Florida Keys tropical island chain, the company continued.
