Low Power/High Performance Active Heave Compensation

Active heave compensation (AHC) systems are the future of the ROV handling industry. Passive systems and curent attempts at active control fall short of industry requirements. One shortcoming of current active strategies is the excessive power required. One proposed strategy uses 200 HP/tonne of compensates load (1,200 HP/6mt), which results in high cowsts associated with the prime movers, control system and sensors.
