Seafioor stability is extremely critical for cable trays,offshore structures and instrument-to-ground coupling during deployment of deep-sea observatories like ocean bottom seismometers.Penetrometers are very well-known geotechnical devices to quantitatively determine seafloor stability from soil parameters such as shear strength or the layering in the upper few meters.
