Cashew is an important commercial tropical crop which occupies special position in India's export trade as one of the major foreign exchange earners for the eountry. The cashew production in Maharashtra is concentrated in Konkan region particularly inRatnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. In Konkan region, rice is the main field crop which is supported by some horitcultural crops like mango, cashew, coconut arecanut etc. In the Konkan region there is scope to increase cashew cultivation up to five lakhhectares. With the inception of the programme of Horticultural Development through Employment Guaranty Scheme i.e. from the year 1990, area under cashew cultivation has been increased (Anonymous, 1994). However, information on adoption of recommended practices on the part of cultivators is lacking. Keeping this view, the present study was carried out with the following objectives.
