Multihop Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are highly reliable, cost effective, and powerful technology for the next generation networks due to the unique features such as low maintenance cost, self-healing, self-configuration and easy deployment. Over the years, these networks are providing number of multimedia services to the end users such as video on demand, voice over IP, video conferencing, and broadband Internet access. Selection and provision of these multimedia services to the end users are two major challenges for the research community in the presence of constraints such as end-to-end delay, throughput, and varying traffic rates. To overcome these challenges, in this paper, we propose a multimedia service selection and provision in presence of above constraints for WMNs. The problem is formulated as a Linear Programming problem from both users and network point of view in presence of defined constraints. Due to the varying traffic rates, it is difficult to provide all the services to the end users with same level of performance so scheduling of services in prioritized manner is required. So a probabilistic service selection algorithm is proposed with strict priority having a provision of early dropping of some of the services without starvation of existing services. A service selection ratio is defined with an objective to maximize the availability of these services under the defined constraints. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated with respect to metrics such as response time, communication cost, service availability and reliability with varying traffic demands. The results obtained show that the service availability increases from 37-50% with varying traffic demands in the proposed scheme than load balancing based approach. Moreover, the proposed scheme is able to select and provide the required service even if the services are of varying bit rate.
