A patient-centered remote health monitoring application over Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is designed to monitor multiple health parameters remotely through a smart phone, not only fix at a hospital setting. Miniature sensor nodes attached on a human body are used to transmit the biomedical data wirelessly to the base station at the smart phone. Smart phone with PC-like functionalities acts as a query processor in WSN to receive and analyze received biomedical data locally with a set of diagnosis algorithms. Smart phone's wireless networking capabilities enables communication with and data transmission to the web server over the distance via the mobile Internet network. As an extension to the remote health monitoring application, barcode technology is used to assist chronic diseases patients in their daily medication processes, verifies and ensures the right medicines are taken. The application is designed based on the concept of patient-centered where a patient is able to monitor and interpret health condition on his own to prevent his diseases turning worse. It is also aimed to reduce resources pressures, medical costs and educate patient to be more knowledgeable about his diseases and treatment needed. WSN technology and barcode technology is adopted to achieve mobility and flexibility in healthcare.
