New Oceanographer/Navigator of the U.S.Navy

RAdm.Fred Byus recently assumed the duties of oceanog-rapher and navigator of the Navy,replacing retired RAdm.Stephen J.Tomaszeski.Byus' last assignment was serving as commander,U.S.Naval Forces Korea.Byus is the 17th person to hold the title of oceanographer of the Navy since its inception in 1960.Headquartered at the U.S.Naval Observatory in Washington,D.C.,the oceanographer of the Navy,according to officials,is responsible for the mission areas of oceanography,meteorology,hydrography,geospatial information and services,precise time,time interval and astrometry.
