The new Ocean Observatories Initiative(OOI)of the National Science Foundation(NSF)will provide the ocean sciences community with the infrastructure to make long-term,adaptive measurements in the oceans.The OOI builds upon recent technological advances,experiences with existing observatories and several successful pilot and test bed projects.
