Side scan sonar surveys have been applied worldwide in a variety of different aspects.In general,this type of sonar is very effective in scanning large areas of the seabed.In the past,side scan sonar was a powerful tool in finding and pinpointing a specific target in a body of water.However,it is currently not only being used in the ocean by hydrographers and marine geologists,but it is extending to the field of environmental applications.
