The deep-submergence rescue vehicles (DSRVs) Mystic and Avalon— the long-serving principal assets for deep-diving submarine rescue for the U.S. Navy—have been retired after nearly 40 years of service. The Navy's new replacement system, the submarine rescue diving and recompression system (SRDRS), named Falcon, is now in service and brings many advantages over the DSRV-based system.
