GL Presents Study on Effects of Pool Fires to LNG Tank Systems

At this year's Gastech conference in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Dr. Gerd-Michael Wiirsig of Hamburg, Germany-based Germanischer Lloyd (GL) presented a study on major hazard scenarios in the event of pool fires around liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers. The paper, produced in collaboration with two German universities, Moss Maritime (Lysaker, Norway) and the American Bureau of Shipping, analyzes the response of an LNG containment system to an enveloping pool fire.
