I the Fiscal Year 2009(FY 09)budget request,defense and security spending remains President George W.Bush's main priority,but several science and technology programs are also receiving substantial funding in the president's budget.The Department of Defense(DOD)budget for FY 09 provides 515.4 billion,a 35.9 billion or 7.5 percent increase over the enacted level for FY 08:158.3 billion for operations and maintenance(O&MN),183.3 billion for strategic modernization,149 billion for pay and health care and 23 billion for family housing and facilities.
