Congress Passes Critical Fisheries Legislation

Final congressional passage of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Reauthorization Act (MSA) of 2006 (H.R.5946) was approved last month and now awaits President George W.Bush's signature to become law.The bipartisan bill,which reauthorizes the MSA from fiscal year (FY) 2007 through FY 2013,will for the first time prohibit overfishing in future fisheries management plans.
