Austal Opens Facility to Build New High-Priority Navy Ships

Eleven months after breaking ground on the project,Austal USA (Mobile,Alabama) celebrated the grand opening of its Northern Expansion facility.The new facility will be used to construct the littoral combat ship (LCS).The US223 million contract for the first of two planned "Flight 0" vessels was awarded in October to Bath Iron Works,a General Dynamics company,which has teamed with Austal,the designer and builder of the LCS seaframe.
