Fifty companies on Fortune magazine's top 500 made losses in 2013, 16 of which were Chinese enterprises, all state-owned, according to Shanghai's China Business News. One hundred Chinese companies featured on the list, compared to 128 US companies, although only four American companies were among those making losses. The 16 Chinese loss-makers racked up staggering deficits totaling 37.7 billion yuan (US$6.1 billion) in 2013, suggesting that many Chinese enterprises lack stability despite their size.
