摘要

Backup rolls for flat steel rolling is used for as longas more than 10 years and during such a long period environmentvariables in rolling such as rolling force and campaign cycle ,etc.,change ,as a whole ,for the severe making backup roll service stillmore arduous.Backup roll accidents affect the whole operation and the damagescaused thereby are not limited to economical loss but millproductivity as well as product quality and cost may oftenseriously influenced .Especially spalling accident representingmore than 80% of the total backup failures ,is caused by materialfatigue ,stress concentration due to abnormal wear profile ,stresscorrosion cracking and other surface damages by rolling accidentswhich are all greatly affected by environment variables.Therefore the systematisation of backup roll maintenance in termsof diagnosis ,repair and recurrence prevention ,on the basis ofinvestigation into spalling mechanism ,spalling data collection andcompilation ,is of vital importance .Described in this paper arebackup roll spalling prevention measures from view points ofdesign ,manufacturing and maintenance introducing typicalexamples of such accidents.
