GETTING YOUR MONEY'S WORTH

Anyone who has read my column in the past year knows that ISRI does a lot for its members. No one is more firmly convinced of the value of ISRI membership than yours truly. But for the doubters, here's one more great example Government relations, and particularly lobbying, is one of ISRI's most important functions. Our big successes--like SREA and export controls, to name two--are legendary. What we don't often hear about are the day-to-day efforts of our professional staff who work to educate members of Congress and federal regulators about the business end of recycling. Mercury switches, shredder fluff, air quality, stormwater, mandated federal recycling rates, increased paper recovery efforts, electronics recycling, and so many other issues crop up regularly. Without the voice of the recycling industry, our government can't know the impact of their decisions.
