The Wicon Rolling Library for Billet, Bar and Rod Mills

Rolling mills require continuous analysis of existing processes and equipment in order to improve working conditions, add new products and manage new investment. This paper will show how the WICON Rolling Library would greatly simplify the above analysis hence reducing relating risks, costs and time. The printed paper shows static pictures but the presentation is an animated demonstration of some of the program modules included in the WICON Rolling Library. The examples will show how to make a relevant analysis (pass design, motors, load, temperatures etc.) in rolling mills for long products. It will also demonstrate the IntelliWICON process control system. IntelliWICON is the result of the integration between Danieli Automation's rolling mill control system and WICON. The outcome is a closed loop process control system based on the WICON engine that will increase the production yield and product quality even further. The library contains programs for making all relevant and necessary calculations for setting up the mill on daily basis as well as for making new pass designs and designing new mills. The WICON products are since 2006 incorporated in Danieli Morgardshammar and Danieli Automation, completing the range of products and services offered by the companies.
