Ten Years Atmospheric Corrosion Test of Zinc Coated Steel Sheets in Southeast Asia

In recent years, the number of vehicles in Southeast Asia has increased steadily linked with economic growth. Ten years atmospheric corrosion test of the various types of zinc coated steel sheets were performed in Bangkok and Singapore since 1997, aimed to obtain the data to determine the corrosion protective design of vehicles in these regions. To evaluate the corrosion environment, temperature and relative humidity of the actual test sites were measured. The analysis results of the salt deposition, and the composition of carbon steel corrosion product obtained from XRD analysis, show the salt environments of these regions are relatively mild. From the values of one-year corrosion rate of carbon steel and zinc, the corrosivity categories based on ISO 9223 of Bangkok are classified as C3 and C4 for carbon steel and zinc. Singapore's corrosivity categories are same as Bangkok's, but the amount of corrosion loss is larger than that of Bangkok. Ten years atmospheric corrosion test results of the various types of zinc coated steel sheets are reported.
