The effects of various pre-sowing seed priming treatments on two different (fresh and revalidated seed) lots of soybean variety SL 295 was studied to monitor the seed quality enhancement. This value added low-cost technique has a direct impact on various physiological and molecular factors that ultimately affect the yield by manipulating the seed performance in the field. Primed seeds emerge faster, grow more vigorously than non-primed seed, in some cases flower early, (important in stressed conditions). The results exhibited the superiority of all the seed priming treatments over the control. The pre-sowing seed hydration for 2 hr and thiram dressing @ 0.2%, followed by CaCl2 @ 2% for 2 hr were found to be the superior as they significantly invigorated seed quality in terms of per cent germination, speed of germination, emergence per cent, vigour index and plant stand. Seed priming treatments resulted in increased amylase activity and DNA content.
