The 23.3-million dollars acquisition gives Simsmetal 14 operations in the United Kingdom, almost doubles its U.K. processing volume to 1.1 million mt, and reportedly makes it the third-largest U.K. metal recycling entity. Aluminum Shapes Inc. (Delair, N.J.), an aluminum extruder, and Arch Aluminum & Glass Co. Inc. (Pompano Beach, Fla.), a glass and aluminum fabricator and distributor, have concluded their merger with a producer of vinyl windows and steel doors, a swimming pool manufacturer, and a hardware manufacturer and distributor. These five companies, which operate under the newly formed parent company Arch America (Delair), have approximately 2,200 employees and projected sales of 400 million dollars this year. Arch America says the merger will allow cross-marketing opportunities, economies of scale, and centralized operations, management, and financial functions.
