Iron carbide has been expected to be alternative iron sources for EAF steel makingbecause of its high carbon content (decreasingrequired energy), easy transportation and very low residuals. This paper describes the results of the bench scale melting tests and some trials insmallEAF.Meltingexperiments were carried out by blowingiron carbide to the surface of the molten iron from a top lance in 50kg induction furnace and by injecting it in 5 ton EAF.
