NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN MIDREX~TM DIRECT REDUCTION TECHNOLOGY

This paper presents the developments in the area of conventional natural gas-based MIDREX~TM Direct Reduction Plants, such as oxide coating for operation at high temperatures, the use of oxygen to increase production, the use of partial oxidation of both to increase reduction gas generating capacity as well as to replace the MIDREX~TM Reformer, the feeding of hot DRI to the steelshop (MIDREX HOTLINK~TM), and the annual production of 2.5 million tons of DRI in a single module (the SUPER MEGAMOD~TM) to feed efficiently a steelshop with two slab casters.
